Just got hit with antivirus 2009 about 20 mins ago. I managed to stop the thing from installing itself and got to a restore point before it deleted them.

Malwarebytes saved me again.

Ccleaner has a great registry tool for final repairs.

I'd highly recommend running combo fix...Malware bytes does not fix permissions and lots of other stuff.

This looks like a great guide. Hopefully it'll take care of the virus that infected my girlfriend's iexplore.exe file. She has had two different computers and managed to pick up the same virus (well, same infected file, same symptoms). AVG free says that it gets rid of it, but it just pops up the next day.

I'll follow this, and hope for the best.
