Default Installing Windows Vista on Corrupted XP

I'm fixing my friends pc since it gives an error when booting "Error Loading OS". I put in my Vista CD(Retail Version) but after it reads the cd it gives me a BSOD. I already went into the BIOS and put DVD drive as primary boot device. Any help? Pc Specs:
P4 3.0GHZ
2GB DDR
WIN XP
250GB HDD
unknown GPU.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I don't have the orignal XP cd, only retail version of Vista. I tried dowloading XP and installing the ISO onto a cd but that didn't work, maybe I didn't burn it right but I don't have any blank cd's left. Any way I can install XP from my flash drive?

Run some hard drive and memory tests.

Sounds like you might have a hardware related issue. Try Memtest86, and run a hard drive test. The easiest way to do that is with the Hirens Boot CD mentioned above as it will have all the necessary tools to try that.

By the way, what are the specs on your friends computer, is it an OEM, and who is it manufactured by?

It was custom built(not by me). I think it may have some HDD problems or other since it likes to freeze a lot. I got to the Installition Screen on Vista but it froze, it's no the CD since I just did a clean Install on my pc. I'm going to try switching the mb, ram, psu, and finally the hd. This is why I don't let people know that I fix pc's... Thx guys.
BTW: Can I use Hirens Boot CD on a flash drive? I don't have any more blank cd's.
