I've seen this come up many times. when you are trying to run a repair of the windows os using the cd the following screen doesn't show up.
__________________![]() what causes this? the windows folder is still there and it will even try to boot from it but yet thinks that you can not repair this one for some reason?

sure it does, after it asks if you want to repair the installation or continue installing windows it comes up.
goes like this - repair? (say no)- license agreement (hit f8)- then it will look for other installations, and THEN come up with that screen.

I hit enter here
![]() hit F8 here ![]() select my hard drive here. as you can see it is the only one ![]() here tells me I already have an os installed but gives no option to repair it. instead just tells me it can cause problems and to continue hit enter or to try a different partition. on the last screen though you can see I only have one partition to install on though. ![]() if I hit c to just continue since I don't have another partition to install windows on it gives me this. at this point i go with leaving the file system intact since formating isn't something I would want to do, but by this point I know that I should of seen the repair option also. ![]() this is the next screen ![]() I didn't take the next screen shot as all it does is ask me which folder I would prefer to install a fresh installtion of windows.

oh I had that before, could not figure it out so I sent it to my buddy to fix.
might want to look into recover programs on the interwebz Thats weird because I just had that happen last week to a drive I was working on. I think its a buggered drive RX...sorry I cant be more help on that one edit: you can try and install that drive as a slave to see if you can get your files off of it

I have a second hard drive installed on that computer which between that and my g/f's computer are how I'm communicating right now.
__________________the drive itself is perfectly fine but the windows install is as you have said buggered. part of this is also relating to this post here http://www.overclock.net/windows/264...s-getting.html what I was thinking was that since the repair isn't working right now and might of missed something is to just redo the repair and hope the files will copy correctly without me getting the error listed on the other post.

Is it a genuine copy of xp? I see that often on altered copies or slip streamed copies of XP.
