Yes, with many 32-bit Vista computers the "limit" seems to be just over 3GB of memory recognized, but you can actually enable Vista to recognize the full amount installed if it's over said value. From what I've heard--I've not yet read the update notes myself--Service Pack 1 will allow 32-bit vista to recognize up to 4GB of RAM installed without that problem. Take this with a grain of salt, though, as it's second-hand information.

Anyway, here's a little guide on how to break the 3GB limit by enabling the Physical Address Extension Vista utility via a simple command line tweak: http://vistarewired.com/2007/03/29/h...windows-vista/

I'm still only newly introduced to this feature so I've not much more information on it, but it's good to let you all in on it. Sorry if it's been posted; I may have mis-interpreted how it was relayed in the initial post.

Does anyone know if that PAE Vista tweak will work in XP Pro 32bit?

Also, I know that in XP 32bit, applications can't use more than 2 gigs of ram. I am into video editing, and being able to allocate more ram to Affter Effects and Premiere would cut down on the rendering times. Is there a tweak for this in XP 32 bit? Can a XP/Vista 64bit allocate more than 2 gigs of ram per application?

Is there somewhere on this forum or elsewhere a matrix showing comparing the feature sets of the various flavors of Vista?

So what this sums up to, is 4GB of RAM is POSSIBLE but not likely, therefore that long discussion me and DuckeHO we were both in a sense correct.

I vaguely remember that discussion, and you had some misinformation. But it happens to all of us!

It was a heated thread for a while though:

The new Vista 32 service pack will allow the OS to report 4Gb, but it still only uses the 4Gb minus other sytem allocated memory. So nothing has changed, except that Windows now reports what bios reports for ram.

Your system should be using 4Gb - 512Mb for video card = 3.5Gb. So make sure to enable memory remapping feature in the bios.
