Your system should be using 4Gb - 512Mb for video card = 3.5Gb. So make sure to enable memory remapping feature in the bios.
Or check that you have all your sticks seated right... see what BIOS reports, or check CPU-Z

im having the same problem. windows only recognizes 2.5 of my total 4... i know that my 512mb graphics card is taking up .5, but shouldnt that make me have at least 3gb? i know the ram is fine, it recognizes all 4096mb of it. ive read the entire thread and it did answer some of my questions.. however it also only left me with more. perhaps there is something i can do along the same lines of what ericeod suggested to lowdanubnoxs (memory remapping in the asus bios) ?

thank you in advance!

edit: heres some more info
