Are you having any other problems in XP apart from that? I would suggest that you need to cleanup your list of apps that starts during a boot. I just type 'msconfig' in the "run"-menu and do it from there. However their are some apps that do this for you, but if I were you I would do it the hard way.

You break it, I fix it

some antivirus is set to scan at start up which really slows down the start up process

now that is strange. I still thinkg it is related to what I suggested previously. I guess the computer is working hard during this time? Hard one. Wish you could take a screenshot of your msconfig-bootscreen for me to have a look at. Just upload it to imageshack and PM me the URL if you are uncomfortable with showing it to everybody. Please maximize all rows so that I can see what type of path the files are located in.

ok, you are like starting no apps there... Odd. OK. First you run checkdisk. you type 'cmd' in the run-menu and type 'chkdsk' and press enter. Let it complete its 3 steps. Then defrag. under acessories and system tools it should be on english O/S.

Well its more than just the security updates. Mine boots instantly (maybe a 1-2 second delay before the programs start) Currently running 3 boot processes (other than windows stuff) and I currently have 26 processes with AIM and FF included.
__________________Download: CCleaner Install and run it, clean out your registry then go into Tools > Startup and clean off all the programs you don't need. I am 99% sure that is the problem, because you have Steam, Java, Yahoo, ATITray all starting up at boot from what I can see.
