After my brother ended up shutting off my computer, which I do not know how he did it as I was not there.....

When I turn on the computer and hit the desktop, vista hits me up with a nice error reporting that says something usually like "COM Event System cannot be started" and then it sends the error report. Then it says no solution can be found.

This occurs to over 6 different services including Windows Media Extender, SSDP Discovery, Network Connections, ect. All the "good" services.

So now I have a really mezzed up OS and even though I can go online with it, I cannot access any other computers on my network as it just locks up Windows Explorer when I try to go to "Network" or "Network and Sharing Center"

Please assist!

yes but the Windows error reporting thing comes back up and repeats itself "Windows Host Processes cannot be ran" and tons of ****.

I cannot open anything related to the network services like Network and Sharing menus and crap. It says "No such interface supported" and stuff. It's REALLY annoying whenever I need to do something important.

My PS3, Xbox360, and my other computers cannot connect to my desktop now.

This is the first REAL problem Ive had with Vista and its grinding my gears really badly.


Things like

Hmm, I'd say reinstall windows. It looks kind of deep and I don't think it was caused by shutting off the computer unless he shut it off after an update and he didn't shutting it down by Start->Shutdown.

Im not reinstalling it. No way. I spent a whole week settling in, optimizing, and installing crap - Im not going back.

I have found a solution and the cause!

AIM - the evil enemy of Vista was the problem.
I installed AIM several days ago to IM my cousin about his new media setup in his living room and guide him step by step. I uninstalled it a day before my brother shut down my computer.

Not even 2 hours ago I knowticed I could not play CSS or Lost Planet. I would simply get an error saying "HL2.exe has encountered a problem blah blah". I looked it up and people said it was a problem with WMI Host in Vista. A further look into it was that AIM actually messes up the WMI Host if UAC is not turned on.

So - everything ties in now. All my network/processes goes together with the WMI Host which was corrupted thanks to AIM. A simple command in the command prompt fixed this..

Then, just to be sure...
If you see LOCAL NT AUTHORITY/SERVICE listed, then it is fixed. Simply restart the computer.

DO NOT INSTALL AIM ON VISTA

I have AIM on Vista. No problems so far, except I got the network error "connection status: unknown server execution failure". I fixed it by elevating or creating an account or something (I don't really know).
