Default Startup problem, blank screen!

Running Vista Home Premium x64, recently when booting it starts normally, get the green loading bar and then the monitor goes blank, turns itself off (orange light comes on) and says there's no signal. I suspect windows is still running, as you can hear the startup sound after the monitor has gone off, and this is a graphics problem.

It will only work now in safe mode.

Tried: Last known good configuration
system restore to before it happened
cmos battery removed and replaced

None of these helped, any ideas?

The only thing I would suggest is to test and swap out the video card with another working card if you have one. See if it boots up all the way to Windows. If it does, then you may have a problem with your video card. Same thing if you are running off onboard video, stick in another video card in the video card slot and test it that way. Give that a shot. Other than that, I'm not sure..

Or the other thing try reinstalling your video drivers in safe mode.

Cheers, It worked with a different card, but still not with the normal one even updating/uninstalling the driver.
What can be wrong with a card that it won't work except in safe mode?

Did you try making sure your cables were firmly connected? I know that sounds like a silly thing, but, you'd be surprised. I have done it before and it made my Video card go coo-coo.

I've been taking it in and out, so I think the cables are okay, I just tried the faulty one in another comp, and got no display at all, which is confusing.

I KNOW! Go into safe mode > services.msc > disable "dwm.exe"...
