Default Switch from IDE to SATA w/o reinstalling?

Right now i've got windows installed on a SATA drive, but in the BIOS its "configure as IDE", so i didnt have to do the whole F6 thing when i installed. i want to move to a RAID0 array, but to do that i have to change the SATA settings to "configure as RAID" and i cant get windows to boot (safe mode or others) this way.

do i just have to reinstall windows onto the array and do the whole F6 thingy?

The RAID utility requires 2 hard drives which you can set up as RAID 0. When you do this, the 2 drives have to be formatted and configured.

So yes, you will have to enable the raid, build it (in the raid utility), then load windows via the F6 function.

If you slipstream the RAID drivers, you wont need the floppy.

To put your disc's into RAID you have to completely formatting them while setting up the RAID array. So yes, you'll hit F6 (to install raid drivers), then when you configure the array you'll have to format your disks... Installing XP aint' so bad... If you dont' have SP on disk go DL n-lite and burn yourself a windows install CD (you can even include all the newest drivers for your hardware) and that'll speed up the process.

wait you can use RAID arrays with winodws?

i was just talking about setting up an array with my mobo. i already made the array, and was planning to just clone drives from my old drive to the array (not even sure its possible, but i was gonna try).

now what say you?

I have not seen any success stories with someone restoring a drive image over to a RAID. You will have to backup your files and do a fresh install.
