Default Vista 3dmark06 higher than XP

Yes, you read it right.

I was wondering what my scores and game performance was like on XP with the 169 WHQLs. So, I set up a fresh new dual boot, no programs installed other than 3dmark06, latest drivers, latest DX dist made sure there was nothing going on in the background, and ran each test under XP 32-bit and Vista 64-bit.

The results I came up were very surprising to me.

XP: 16,980
Vista: 17,200

I figured this couldn't be right, so I ran it again. Same results. It seems that vista is getting alot more attention than XP these days, and has actually surpassed XP in performance with 3dmark06, not sure about actual games though. (Before someone asks SP1 RC1 was installed on Vista, XP was with SP2 with the latest updates.

When I tried this I got 1,500 points less in vista, but I'm running 32 bit. Possibly some program was doing some software overclocking in xp on startup, but the vista startup killed it?

Didn't look at them.

The only thing I can think of is that 64-bit is giving it a boost, but that shouldnt really matter...

I tend to do a standalone vista install when SP1 is released.
