I just installed Vista Home Premium 64-Bit last night. Well, sometimes it will just hang for 10-15 minutes at a time. Not frozen, because I can still mvoe the mouse. There are no Chipset drivers fro 64-bit Vista on Asus' website, so I don't know if that's the issue or not. It seems like it works just fine for 10 minutes at a time, then it will just hang when I try to open a folder or start an application. I haven't installed video card drivers yet, because I want a functioning OS first, then I will worry about graphcis and games.
I inserted the ASUS disk, and it said something about the drivers not being digitally signed, so they are a no-go. I was able to get online (I'm using the Vista PC right now) without any LAN drivers, and it's kind of working OK, for now, anyway. So, are there any common issues with brand new Vista installs I should know about? I'm in Safe Mode right now (no particular reason) and it's functioning OK, but still hanging quite a bit. I am at all stock settings as far as OC goes, and am yet to install ANYTHING apart from what comes on the Vista OEM disk. I had this same issue about 6 months ago with Vista Business. Please Help, pow3rtr1p

Here is a link to ATI's CrossFire Xpress 3200 vista 64 drivers at the ATI website. The SB drivers are dated Jan 16, 2008, so they are relatively new.
See if these help.

You really need drivers for your video card, motherboard, and sound. They are a must. I would try google to see if you can locate the newest drivers for your motherboard.
Apart from that SP1 is rumored for Feb 15th, so hopefully that will fix it. You could always try the SP1 beta but you'll likely have to reinstall windows on the 15th then.

I just looked around and cant find anything on the AMD 580X CrossFire Chipset with SB 600 chip. I went ahead and submitted a technical support request with AMD (I have an account with them), so I'll update this thread with any info I receive. edit: it looks like the drivers I linked above are correct: Quote:

64-bit drivers are not very common, and if they even exist for your hardware, companies don't spend too much time developing or supporting them, since 64-bit computing is still 5-10 years out from becoming mainstream.
__________________Anyway, unless you're working with databases or something, you probably don't need a 64-bit OS. Right now it's just a novelty, or a geek-measuring-up contest. I tried 64-Vista Ultimate, but you really can't run much on it. Compatibility sucks. As if Vista-32 didn't have enough compatibility issues to begin with. ~ Nick

So I just need the SB drivers, then? I wasn't really sure if I needed anything else for the mobo or not. Once I get those installed, I'll put on video card drivers.

Those SB drivers didn't work. I think they may only be for onboard graphics chipsets. When I started to install them, it said something about "scanning for graphics" and then "no ati graphics found".
When I insert the CD-ROM that came with the mobo, Vista says something about how the drivers are not digitally signed. Then, a message comes up that says "could not load driver kernel" or something along those lines, and then a few messages come up a about "failed to load" various .dll files. Is there a way to bypass these messages, or any other suggestions you guys may have?

Well I sent a request to AMD on your behalf yesterday asking them for a 580X chipset driver link and/or info for Vista 64. I will update this post as soon as I here back from them.

I found something online (from googling) that some people that experienced hangs like me were because their HDD was plugged into a SATA II port, and it worked fine when they switched to SATA. Any weight to this argument?
Still wanting Chipset drivers, though... Oh, and another thing, my clock doesn't stay on time. When I boot up it's the right time, but it goes extremely slow after that. Maybe it's a clue, I don't know...

Are you saying they moved the drive connection, or they used the SATA 150 jumper to make the HDD run at SATA1 speeds?
Also, for clarification, what chipset does your documentation say is used on your board? Newegg and ASUS specs say it is the 580x, but other sites are calling it the radeon express 3200, is it the same chipset with different names depending on if you have integrated graphics? ASUS has a SB600 driver for Vista 64, but it looks like it is only for RAID... As for the clock issue, try leaving the bios up for a little while and see if that clock is also running slowly. I dont know why it is doing that, but I'm curious if it is bios related or not (most likely not).
