Default Vista 64 startup problems

Hey everyone, my sig rig is running vista business 64 bit and is no longer booting. The situation is this: I mounted an .iso file with magicdisk, and magicdisk stopped responding. When the system would not shut down normally, I hit the power button on my case. Now on startup, Windows will show the loading screen with the green status bar at the bottom, then go to a black screen showing only the mouse cursor. The same thing happens in safe mode, after showing the list of loaded drivers, the screen goes to black with only the mouse cursor. I have tried booting to a recovery disk and running the "diagnose startup problems" (im not sure of the name of this wizard), which returns no errors. I have gone back to an old system restore point, but this did not resolve the problem either. Finally, ive tried booting into low graphics mode, but the black screen persists. Any ideas, sorry im starting to panic a bit, my "my documents" folder contains some school work that will be lost if im forced to reformat

are your overclocked? i have vista 64 on now and when i overclock to much it does the same thing (hanging in the startup screen forever)

also u could try unpluging all your drives except the one your windows vista is on and if that does not work boot to a live linux cd and remove your documents through a flash drive

If stock doesnt work then I think its reformat time.

The way you can get your information is to put your hard drive in another computer, then just grab the files you want off of it. (Don't actually boot to it).

eh, i was hoping to get this fixed tonight, but its looking like ill just be using the lappy for a bit.

Anyone have any ideas why windows says theres no problem with the boot sector and going to an old restore point doesnt help? Is this just vista 64 being quirky?

System restore is crap. (And IMHO so is system repair)

I believe your OS is just corrupt. When you do get your computer up and running again i'd verify your OC was stable (espically the ram) because that could cause the corruption (Espically the TRC timing)

You have the same as me and its rated at 1000 5-5-5-15 with a TRC of 45. However I let my board auto set the TRC which I believe is 32. I've lowered it down to 20 and 25, and it passed memtest but leads to corruption after time.

I also have the the TRC auto set. I was at 5-5-5-15 timings at somewhere around 940mhz. Its so weird that things can go from working to not working in the course of one restart, but i guess thats life... Ill probably run a memtest and get reformatting and reinstalling... thanks for all your help by the way
