Default Vista Document Recovery

A couple minutes ago I got a call from my sister, who's in college, who has a problem. She finished typing a paper an hour or so ago then went to get ready for bed. When she returns, the file is nowhere to be found. The file is supposedly named "Thirteen", we've tried the start menu search function, obvious save locations, and searching for some type of system log to find out what happened. Still no luck. Any suggestions?

Try just searching for "Thir" or "teen" or even 3 digits. Might have been mispelled.

You could also just search for things modified or created within the last 2 hrs.

Hate to be the one to say it, but unless she is absolutely positive she saved it, she might have just accidentally closed the thing without saving it.

However, assuming she didn't, you'd be better off combing the computer with a full search. I was aware that the start menu search only searched select drives, am I right?

In the program she used to type it, if she goes to file>open wouldn't it take her to where she saves all her documents?

Is there any chance you can search something like "files modified within the last hour?"

I believe its a option in the search feature somewhere... I'm in vista and don't see it. I know there was a option in XP to check for files modified between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX.

1. How do I get to the advanced search feature, and
2. Should I make sure a certain option is enabled?
