"BitLocker is only available in the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista." But I thought that BitLocker was on by default-- in which it encrypts your entire volume (all the data that is on the volume). It's just a point of clarification in case you use those operating systems and you need data off the drive(s). Professional forensics people can get past all that without too much trouble, but for someone that does not have that experience, it's not easy. Quote:

How about just calling Microsoft and have them activate your supposedly legitimate copy of Vista? I don't see the point of this sorry.

With Vista I just used windows +r to bring up a run window or used less functionality, right click to explore or open windows and that would let me copy things I sent to one of my computers on my network. worked like a charm.

I was lucky that I had an empty partition on my Thinkpad laptop (you know they don't have a Windows Key). I installed ubuntu with mount points for root (/), home (/home), Windows C and D (/Windows/C) (/Windows/D). C is in NTFS but should not be formatted during the installation. D is in FAT32, also doesn't need formatting. Home and root are in ext3.... Then, after installation I was able to access Windows data from Ubuntu Linux and copy for example (from and) to a memory stick. I was very happy. Probably the whole thing would even work with a live CD of ubuntu. I didn't try out since I need Linux anyway (not every program runs on Windows, he, he,
)
