If you've used Vista, you already know what I mean when I say User Account Control is annoying. Well, after getting fed up with it, I decided to disable it, but not fully. You may have noticed that every time a UAC prompt comes up, the whole screens flashes quickly to black and then shows the UAC prompt. The "flashing" can actually be disabled and it makes UAC much more bearable without losing as much security as completely disabling Vista. So, here's how to disable the "flashing", or as Microsoft likes to call it, "secure desktop".

1. Open up the start menu and go to the "Run" prompt. (This isn't in the start menu by default in Vista, so just type "run" into the search box. It'll be the first result)
2. Type "gpedit.msc" (without quotes) into the run prompt and press enter. Click continue in the UAC prompt (this should be the last annoying one you'll see). You should now be in the "Group Policy Editor".
3. Now browse to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
4. Finally, find the policy titled "User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting for elevation". Set this to disabled by double-clicking the policy name and selecting "Disabled" in the dialog that appears and clicking OK.
5. That's it! Now you should notice the UAC prompts should be much less aggravating!
