I had this idea which I will not implement until I get the green light from OCN:

Can I go into Hibernation mode, then turn the rig back on and go into BIOS, do my tweak, and then come back to see how things are doing?

Are you guys talking about Standby? I think Hibernate shuts down just saves everything to drive til boot.

Yea, but the computer doesn't go through the full BOOT process when it recovers from Hibernation.

Hibernate mode is a function of the OS. BIOS changes during the POST.

You can't get to the bios when hibernating...

Hibernation does not shut down your computer.

Wow, so nobody uses hibernate huh?

Hibernation completely turns off the computer. It saves everything onto your hdd so that you can end up exactly where you left off when the system is turned on again. And then it says that it's Resuming Windows or something, and bam.. you're back.

So, I'm talking about like... going into hibernation while reading a tutorial. Then turning the system back on. Then going into bios. Then saving and restarting, and then Resume Windows, and continue reading.

Will this work the same as actually Restarting windows?

No. When your computer goes into Hibernation, it saves where you were to the HDD.

When you then "power on", your computer does not go through a BOOT sequence. It does not POST, and you will not be able to access BIOS.

When you hibernate, your OS just kills everything and says to the computer "Hey, when you wake up, come straight to me, skip everything else."


It is completely different from Restarting the computer.

Unless you have a way of accessing BIOS while youre in your OS, this can't be done. And you can't access your BIOS from your OS.

Well I thought Hibernate shut down and just accessed the drive when you boot I've only used Standby cause It keeps the ram alive as your pc sleeps heh just hit the power button and its there don't much like the slower hdd speeds.

But I can't standby with my over clock above 3 ghz for some reason... mobo just goes restart crazy til it thinks it " Fixed " the problem and make me have to reconfig haha its kinda weird and if any of you know why I guess if you don't mind helping me out .
