Default Needs activation

My xp install needs activation due to "recent hardware changes" I installed my ds3l a couple days ago and says my install needs activation within 3 days. The problem is, the activation tool keeps crashing.

According to the EULA you signed when you pressed F8 to install windows, you're supposed to get a new key when you get a new board.

If you can't get that XP activated in the time they tell you to, you won't be able to log in until you do get it activated. You'll be able to call or use the activation utility to activate over the internet.

When you call, they're supposed to tell you to buy a new key, though, since yours is OEM. If I were to tell you to "just tell them your board fried" or "just tell them you got a virus," I'd get a piracy infraction

Hmm... Well if you've got vista coming... You can do the following:

Do an upgrade (or possibly repair) install of XP with your XP disk. That way you'll get 30 days free before you must activate, and hopefully your vista disk will have arrived by then. It's possible that the upgrade install will remember that you only have 3 days, though, in which case a complete reinstall would produce the desired effect (30 free days).
