Default XP 32 bit vs. Vista 64 bit firewire transfer speed

this may or may not b relevant but, last night i was working in vista and transferring files off of my external firewire drive and it I had to let it run over night to move 12 gigs of data

now today I booted into XP and I moved some more files form the same drive to the same drive on my computer ( I dual boot). it took about 20 minutes to transfer 25 gigs of data

is there something I have missed in vista to make it use firewire faster, because i find it hard to believe the speed difference.

for both occasions there was a variety of file sizes involved.

Vista is notoriously slow for copying files. Even from drive to drive, I sometimes notice a 100% increase in copy time in Vista over XP. The problem is apparently addressed and greatly improved in SP1.

Firewire transfer was VERY slow for me as well in vista, I switched over to USB 2.0 and was getting nearly 40MB/s more.

SP1 is released tomorrow on windows update, see if that fixes it. If not you'll probably have to use USB 2.0.

thats the kicker, it a lacie porche drive and it only has firewire so i am stuck with firewire.

on the other hand usb is slower in XP then in vista.

I like the chaining ability of firewire but most things are usb.

ahh SP1 that will be a fun download
