Default help with processes - slow pc

im using an dell pc with AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 1.9 gHz and 1 gb of ram. running windows XP home edition without visual themes.

i have like 42 processes when i start windows. can someone help me with which ones i can get rid of permanently? or which ones are viruses? or which ones are essential for windwos to run.

start>run>msconfig>startup only un-highlight the ones you know are non system or other program critical.

also can unmark some services under services tag all under start up are NOT critical, so nothing bad will happen if u disable all.

Edit.

Check if your paging file is set manually some times when is on auto slow the pc a bit
