Yes java and flash work in vista64, they just don't work with the 64bit browser so you have to use the 32bit browser instead.

32 bit browser is already installed, you install java and flash using it, or install them independently like you do on previous versions of windows. The 64 bit browser is IE 64bit and the 32bit one is just called plain old internet explorer.

There is no 'General feel of OS responsiveness' bench, but I am pretty sure X64 would be in the lead.

Hate to burst your bubble but i bought vista three months after release and i havent had a single problem (x64 that is)... although i suggest the desktop stability update which even when i reinstalled vista x64 (when sp1 came out to kinda clean up the OS) it installed so i came to the conclusion that it is a staple to any reinstall.

Fine for a few weeks. No crashes, no issues with programs.

But, then again, 90% of programs run in X86 mode

You could also just get the 4GB hotfix from the Microsoft website and install that, then put the other 2GB in, it's up to you.
This is not true... i have installed and reinstalled vista business x64 with 4gb of ram at least three times on two different machines. I also use NCQ, if your drive supports it, because it really reduces disk lag
