I used to have this problem, was a pain , with the same board 2, did lotsa research and still couldnt figure out the exact reason. 'They' say, for most cases, its something between nvidia Lan ports and Vista

I reformatted and installed different drivers and it was ok till i had to reformat again then it went dodgy .

ended up spending £15 on a pci-e gigabit card which was fine becasue it wasnt nvidia

now i use my sig board which obviously isnt nvidia and havnt had a prob since

so a little add on card could be the workaround m8? you can have mine for a £5 :P
but there are some fixes around which may work for you, didnt for me

I'm assuming you are hooked up through a router. Do this it may fix the problem.

Quote:
I’ve had problems with my connections in Vista for quite a while now, and I think i finaly have found the solution. My problem was that I lost the connection after a while without really knowing why. My xp-laptop were still online. Anyway, after discovering that my linksys router may not support DHCP BROADCAST flag, i found a solution from Microsoft on how to disable this function in Vista. So far my connection have been stable after adding the DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToogle

So, here is how you do it.

1. Click StartStart button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list. User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesT cpipParametersInterfaces{GUID}

In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the network adapter that is connected to the network.

If you don’t know wich one of those cryptic {GUID} to select, just find the one that has got an IP address. (se screenshot below)

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.

4. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle, and then press ENTER.

5. Right-click DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify.

6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

7. Close Registry Editor.

If you are using both wireless and regular connection, you’ll need to add DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle to both.
Here is the link to the source. Hope this helps. If you are having your lan port just shut down and give you an error and show as x'ed out I have another solution for you that fixed my connection issue but I think the one I just posted is more appropriate. I would go to the link to see the pics.

ah yeah good old tcpip

check Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer\Windows Logs\ System

itll give you tcpip.sys warning everytime it boots you off :P

TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

and how i did try to raise the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts alowed with no luck

anyway , yeah looks like MS solved it (sept 07 , too late for me i needed it sooner!! )
