Default Windows startup problems

Having a major problem with windows at the moment, it starts up ok and lets me login. But just 10-20 seconds in the whole thing freezes. I can still move the cursor but everything else is frozen. If I click a few times then I get beeped at and the cursor stops as well.

I went into safe mode and its fine, I haven't installed anything new (hardware or software) since it last worked the day before. I tried just removing some programs from the startup to see if that had any effect but still have the same problem.

Now this has been happening for a few months, but always before it would work again after 1 restart. Tried 6 times now and it definitely isn't starting.

So any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

No error message? Overclocked? Try removing the overclock if there is one..

Not overclocked and no error message, just freezes.

You haven't disabled any Windows services?

EDIT: Try it and I'll be back in 30 mins.

No, nothing changed after it worked and no services disabled while I was in safe mode either. I just stopped some extra programs starting up such as my irc client and temp monitors etc.

boot up into safe mode and see if the problem is replicated there. if so you could have a hardware problem, or a corrupt system file.

if it doesnt, it may be a program that you installed a while back that started acting up. sounds stupid, but it happened to me, had to uninstall it in safe mode.

As I said mnishimura00 I can boot into safe mode with no problems at all.

I don't however have any clue on what is causing it for me to go in and try uninstalling it.

Try re-enabling those start-up programs...

Already did (since it didn't seem to help), still stuck with the same problem though.

id go into msconfig in safe mode and start taking everything out that wasnt a pertinant sytem file. most everything that you loaded, just take it out. A computer with nothing on it is better than one that doesnt run.
