So, I've been using Vista for almost 6 months now, and I enjoy it most of the time.. but after having to reformat 4 times and still having issues.. I'm really thinking of going back to XP.
First and foremost, I love Vista. It's a beautiful OS, and I think it is more functional and overall better than XP, but for the sake of my time and sanity, I just can't deal with the issues it has. I just want my computer to WORK. I hate having to take 30 minutes out of the 2 hours I have to play a game fixing some stupid error. This is my 4th reformat, and I am not going to do a 5th. It's too frustrating to redo all of my drivers and shortcuts and all that crap, and then stuff gets botched up anyway, so I end up reinstalling a bunch of stuff. None of the errors I am having are that terrible that my rig isn't working, its just, I would rather not deal with them. Among them are: 1. Sound Card software doesn't work. I have tried many times reinstalling the whole sound card suite (drivers, software) and had no luck. So now I can't really control my sound card all that well. Also, because I can't control my sound crd, I can't use a microphone.. and that's just annoying. 2. Printer/Scanner software doesn't work. Same deal, have tried reinstalling multiple times. I can print perfectly fine, but I can't bring up the Home Control Center software, and that means I can't scan anything. also annoying when you write down a lot of your notes and homework and like to keep them on your computer. 3. Windows Network Manager "thing" says I have no internet connection, ever, when in reality.. I'm on the internet. Just a little thing that bothers me. 4. Startup errors. Everytime I start up, I get a couple prompts saying COM+ Error or Windows Defender User Interface blah error. These are just annoying. I don't want them. Just startup without complaining. Do what Macs do.. just startup. 5. Windows Defender.. doesn't work because I get an error everytime I try to update definitions. Not that I need Windows Defender, but the fact that it doesn't work anyway, just annoys me. So, I'm starting to reconsider being on Vista. XP just didn't have any issues for me. Last time I booted into it, it worked perfectly.. started right up without complaint, went right into whatever program I asked.. it was nice. Like I said, I love Vista.. but keeping it isn't really worth the trouble. This is more of a rant than anything, because I don't want to get rid of Vista, but I want everything to work. Maybe these are problems because it is 64 bit Vista, I don't know, but it's just annoying. I've tried to fix all of these problems seperately.. and just haven't had any luck. Thoughts guys? (and girls?)

if you want to go back to XP, then i recommend having multi-boot, so you can decide which OS to boot into.. .. and strange.. i look at your errors and i havent seen any of those..
soundcard works without installing drivers (for me, vista has proper drivers built-in) and i dont have any startup errors, and the network manager thing works fine here ![]()

Yea, my soundcard works, I just can't use the Creative Console software, which is annoying.. since I love to tweak everything about my soundcard
![]() The startup errors, I have had different errors on every different reformat I have done.. but all the same, they are pointless errors. I have it multibooting right now.. I can boot into Vista or "Older Version of Windows" aka XP. The network manager thing I can live with, but its just annoying. I'm a perfectionist... and I hate little things that throw it all off. Been working to resolve the printer and the sound card problem for awhile. Mind you, those are only some of the errors. Alot of errors I get, and then fix.

The Windows network manager does the same thing to me from time to time. I never use Widows Defender anyway so I disabled it EDIT: There is also a new version of CCL available as well. On a side note my CPU fan just ate a horsefly!!! Lol! ![]()

Creative sound card and nVidia GPU. Bad combination in Vista x64 since both tend to give people lots of trouble.

3. Windows Network Manager "thing"
indeed! why make it sooooo bloody hard to find where your network cards / settings are - or anything! and as you said! the wireless and ethernet are both saying theres no network... theres no connectivity theres no IP address... BUT - sum how able to go online! and then there is the reverse issue of when it does have full network connection and IP address but doesn't get internet access?! and the fact that vista is a resource hungry OS as well! no wonder folk need 8 Gb of ram, quad cpu's and nuclear powered cooling! XP SP3 and Windows 2000 SP4!...lol

My printers software will not install (drivers will, just not the interface software) but I am able to use the built in Windows scanner software to scan stuff with no problems.

I just downloaded the newest "Beta" version of it, and tried to install it, but got the Error "I-001". So I did a search on install.log and pulled up the install.log for Creative Console Launcher, which read "DirectX not found" So I thought I could remedy this by reinstalling DirectX. Then I ran CCL install again, and got the same error. Check install.log again.. same thing "DirectX not found" Emailed Creative, waiting on reply.
