Default Windows Explorer problems.

Hey people hope someone can help me out here. My Windows Explorer, and My Computer actually, are messing around. I recently removed one of my hard drives to copy some stuff off a mates PC and when I put it back in my system it gave me grief. When I double click on the drive icon in the My Computer panel a window pops up asking what program I want to use to open the file. I can still sccess the drive by using the folders tree thingy on the left of Windows Explorer so its not serious but is is very annoying cos it means something ain't working properly.

Please help I feel like a total NOOB!!!

Is this Windows XP? If so, I suggest booting into the install CD for XP.

Hit "enter"
Then "F8"
Now it's gonna scan your computer for previous versions, and your hit "R" to do a repair install. That will repair all of your system files. (It will look like a new OS install, but it's not! All your stuff will be there!)

Try that, and you should be good!

Yes, they should all still be there, but I would reinstall/upgrade them anyway!

Before even doing all that, make sure that there isn't a file called "autorun.inf" in the root level (not in any folders). It might be hidden though, so make sure you can view hidden/system files.

Its the file that they use on CDs to load up a launcher or whatver when you insert it or double click on it - it works on hard drives as well.

How will that fix the broken file links though...? It seems to me his problem is that Windows no longer can find the files to do simple tasks, and Windows must be repaired. I JUST had to fix a computer experiencing this problem...
