I just did a clean install of Vista ultimate x64 SP1 on my sig machine. When I install any program at all, it takes forever. The installer starts and sits there for about 20 minutes (it varies depending on the program), then the install finally starts going and it installs at normal speed. Anybody else encounter this problem? It's really annoying.

........compared to other os's I installed (ubuntu 5.something and XP) it was pretty fast, and I had to install it twice (used upgrade disk on clean hard drive) maybe yours had a glitch or something.

It's Idontevenknow how many gigabytes to install it, and it's Vista. It takes a long time.
I'm used to 10 minute XP installs though. Disk images rule.

Vista installed in about 30 min. I'm talking about video game installs, driver installs, and any other application in Vista. I've had vista x64 ultimate installed before but I never used it with SP1. Maybe SP1 is the cause?

haha yea. Installing Gears of War on any machine takes decades. So does Age of Conan with its 25 gig install. Well anyways, this problem is really annoying and I can't seem to find a fix for it.

If you open up task manager, you will see a process called "consent.exe" dutifully checking the signature of your install files. This takes ages.

Mine too, it's a widespread incompatability of the CD-Protection with DVD drives.
