Default Windows update folder

Is it completely safe to delete my \Windows\SoftwareDistrubion\Download folder?

It's taking up about 3GB and it's just previous Windows Updates downloads correct (or current downloads that I didn't install yet)?

I'd rather use CCleaner hotfix uninstaller option

Ummm I think you may still need it... I think it's still using the updates in that folder and you could have major issues if you do delete. If you delete let me know what happens!

I see. In the last 2 days I lost 4GB or so and didn't know why. Until I came across this folder filled with old and new updates (just downloaded a new set for ~3GB, added to the old stuff in there).

I'll give the CCleaner hotfix uninstaller a shot. Never cleaned anything in the "Advanced" checklist.

Odd. Hotfix Uninstall didn't really get rid of anything (total analysis was just 33MB to be deleted along with all my temp files and all that).

Yes its safe. Just disable automatic updates, then you can delete anything you want in the \Windows\SoftwareDistrubion\ folder. Then re-enable them again.

I usually set my Windows Update not to automatically download but I guess I forgot to turn that off since I installed Vista (last year ) and never cleaned up that folder.

Edit: I think I figured what the bulk of the folder is. SP1 just popped into Windows Update for me, which is around 2.5GB for the full DL.
