Default Vista Ultimate 64 bit problems.......

I have been having problems with Vista Ultimate 64 bit lagging when I move the mouse around. I have updated everything ranging from my MB bios, my graphics card driver, my mouse driver, all the Vista updates that are out and even my sound card driver version. I also have been getting random computer shut-downs and I'm still trying to figure out what the problem is (maybe I was under-volting the processor even though it was running at 1.4 volts after vdroop. Any ideas what this problem could be? I'm out of things to try in order to solve this problem. Thanks

I have done Prime95 and Orthos and it seemed fine at 3.6GHz but all of the sudden the lag started getting worse and I kept having more random crashes....could be from a driver issue or a program that Vista doesn't like? Once the problems started to persist I than did every update that was available and I took my CPU overclock from 3.6GHz to 3.4GHz which seemed to help some but the problem still persists. Ram and all of the other settings that I am currently running haven't changed.

Don't think it's Vista x64.. most likely hardware related.

try putting the cpu back to stock and see if it continues. also have you tried running memtest to rule out memory failure?

interesting indeed.

now as said above, do you have the same issue when everything runs at it's native speed (stock)?

seeing as you have 4gb of ram, did it always lag like this? try booting up the PC with just 1 stick (giving you 2gb) or ram, and see if the problem persists.

if you have a spare hdd, try a fresh install.

2) The 8 PIN power connector on the MOBO is 2x 4pin power connectors combined in parallel to draw more power safely. 1x 4pin power plug will work, but you should think of an upgrade.
3) If you're running x64 OS and have more than 3GB ram installed but windows is only reporting around 3GB, Go into your bios and enable Memory remapping.

Could be your mouse.. I had a mouse die on me a few months ago and I thought my computer was dying. The mouse would sporadically turn off, so I would get 2 or 3 minutes of use out of it, but then it would turn off for a second, and repeat.

Ditto.
  1. Input stock settings in BIOS (CPU, memory, etc.)
  2. If that doesn't work, try one stick of memory at a time and alternate. Maybe one of your sticks are bad, or have failed.
  3. If you can, try to install a fresh copy of Vista on a spare HD. Fresh install is quick, and worth the test.
  4. If you don't want to reinstall, try creating a new account in Vista.
  5. Good luck!

Try these things.
Spyware scan.(usually you need to run more than 1 program)
Virus scan.
Run CCleaner.
It's here if you don't already have it.
