Default XP upgrade disk question

Building a new comp just to be used for the internet, and it turns out the copy of xp that i have for it is just an upgrade.

So what do I do, I used an upgrade a long time ago and I remember that I just had to throw another windows OS disk in the middle of the install, so is it possible to throw a vista disk in when it asks for another full version windows disk?

Almost positive that to install Windows XP Upgrade, you will need to insert the install disc for Windows 98, Me, 2000, or NT4.0. Trying to upgrade to XP with a Vista disc would actually be a downgrade and therefore should not work.

Install XP.
Instead of Activating it, put the disk back in, and click upgrade. Or something like that.

Or 98, or whatever..

Load in Win98SE. Even if things are not all that stable with it on a newer build. The default monitor display keep. If the networking and other things are not found with 98, who cares.

Now do the XP upgrade. Things should run well without too much fanfare.

Once the upgrade is finished, register it, down load the other updates and the install should be complete.

I'm not sure if NT-4 or any of the WinNT OS's are apt for upgrading to XP via that CD/DVD.

Well since all I have now is vista and that upgrade disk, I think I will just buy a copy of xp since they are going to be discontinued and I might as well grab a copy.

You need Win98 or 2000 to upgrade. The upgrade disc is intended for previous windows owners to move up for half the price of moving to windows from say apple. But, as most of us have found out, we can get an oem version for the same price.
