Default windows xp taskbar disappearing

i've had recent troubles with the windows taskbar and all my desktop icons disappearing in the middle of surfing the internet and looking in my documents and such. I cannot figure this problem out and I have not made any drastic software or hardware changes recently either. any opinions would help!

Well, something is wrong with your explorer.exe program. That is the program that controls start bar/desktop icons so watch it in task manager to see if it starts and then stops responding or something.

I used TCP Optimizer. InsightBB.com recommended it when I took their speed test.

If it messes with registry files that could be your problem. a fresh install should fix it

could also be a Trojan Virus ... had a similar issue when i D/led a progam .. I could reboot Explorer.exe by ctrl+alt+del and manually runing explorer.exe but it would only last a few minutes at the most. Had to re-install XP

Yes, that last time it happened to me I opened up the task manager and opened up the run command and ran explorer.exe and everything appeared again. I'm going to try and load an old save of my registry files if I can find one. Any other ideas would still be helpful.
