Default Windows Retail Activation Question

I want to move my retail copy of Vista Ultimate to another PC, but I don't know if I have to do anything to the PC its installed on first. Do I just uninstall it, or is there a way to de-activate it? I haven't had much experience with retail copies...Thanks for any help.

Many ways to go at it. I've done this before and it's not that bad. You can also keep on both PCs.

Install it on the new PC and activate it. If it won't activate the key call up Microsoft and tell them your situation and they'll go ahead and tell you to use the activate by phone option and they'll give you lots of numbers and you'll be activated.

I'm going to be removing it first, I just wanted to know if there some de-activation process since Windows Activation doesn't know when I'm uninstalling the OS. I guess I could activate by phone if I need to.

You don't need to deactivate. Just format the old drive and install in new system.
And just in case that you have activated the os to many times then it will ask you to activate thru the phone. Just make sure you tell them when they are asking you questions that the software is retail and it is installed on one pc. But you could install the retail so many time till it ask you to activate on the phone.
