I recently had some troubles with Windows Vista so I deceided to reinstall it, by formatting the C:\ drive wich it's on.
__________________I had installed XP on the F:\ drive a few months earlier but I guess the NTLDR for both is still located on the C:\ drive or something. So when I booted the computer with the fresh vista installation the boot selection screen didn't come up. Adding it back in with vista boot pro gave the missing NTLDR error when trying to boot.. the fixboot command from the XP cd dindn't work either. I did however use fixboot G: as the windows XP installation showed up as the G: drive in the repair console.. But well, my knowledge of boot files isn't really astounding or anything so I thought I ask you guys before I **** something up again.. Thanks in advance ![]()

Well your C:\ holds the /boot and the boot files needed sence you formated it you dont have a copy of what was their your going to need to install xp then install vista to get them both working again. Unless someone else knows a better idea i havet dual booted a whole lot.

Run the repair on the XP cd. This is just a suggestion, I don't know if it will work. It should replace any missing or corrupt files though.

Yes, it worked great before untill the reinstallation messed everything up.

I would recommend installing EasyBCD on Vista and creating a dual booting profile with the program.
Easy BCD Documentation EasyBCD How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) Note: Quote:
This should help you fix the issue... edit: What I'm hoping is that BCD will allow you to add XP to the boot MBR. So when you install and run it, you should be able to add XP. Then when you reboot, you will have the option of which OS to boot from.

Yeah, I dual-boot XP 32 and Ubuntu 64.
And for a suggestion, install grub, or a similar boot loader. See what it can find.

OK, I've downloaded EasyBCD, added the XP entry back in and also downloaded new NTDETECT.COM and NTLDR files.

I would think C drive, since that is the boot table, but I'm not 100%.

OK, but I also seem to need a new boot.ini file, as it says it's invalid when I try to boot that way. Also tried on the F:\ disk but it's the same story..
__________________Do I have to edit Vista's boot.ini or do I need to create a new one? And if I need to edit it, where can I find it...?
