i seem to be having issues installing stuff... I installed XP SP3 on my sig rig a week ago, and right after that i get an error on startup saying one of the activesync dlls was trying to execute in a windows memory area. it didn't cause any other issues though, and so i didn't pay mind to it...

and so after a few days i try and install some stuff and i get this error saying that the windwos installer is not available... So i thiought it was a DEP related issue, thinking of that activesync dll, and i turn off DEP, and remove activesync... but that didn't work. So yesterday i uninstall XP SP3 and it freezes on me... so, stupidly, i admit, i turn off the power at the mains, and when i reboot, it takes longer to get into windows, which is how long it took during SP2, BUT, it says SP3 is installed on my system and also the SP3 installation is still available in my add/remove programs bit.

and now i can't install some programs, namely crysis and Call of Duty United offensive - the error states that the windows installer is unavailable...

anyone know any way to sort this out? cos i like the speed of SP3, and don't really wanna get rid of it. i've tried cleaning my registry with system mechanic, but it doesn't seem to want to work.

i hate SP3 has caused me nothing but freaking trouble....kind of like vistas incompatibility problems with programs

hmm...haven't had that issue with SP3. Ever program I have installs fine.

but with Zone alarm it says
set up could not find msi package or patch
so i found the full download
on major geeks or something like that

hmmm. thanks for the replies...

I'ma try installing it again and if that doesn't work, then... well, i'll see what to do from there... Too much stuff on the main HDD that i don't want to get rid of

SP3 is like adding a boat anchor to your OS. It just drags the resources down.

Talk on other forums mention that it was a ploy by M$ to bloat SP3 so as to get people to migrate over to Vista.

I've avoided getting SP3 on my box. The last thing I need is more time fixing what M$ broke.

I highly doubt that. I haven't had any where near the problems since I installed SP3. SP3 is like another other OS, certain programs will have issues with it plain and simple. It's not some secret ploy.
