Big O

Great Guide, your link to the Daemon tools just goes to a jpeg file.

I need a little clairity since I don't write software.

copype x86 c:\winpe_x86

imagex /mountrw c:\winpe_x86\winpe.wim 1 c:\winpe_x86\mount

xcopy “c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Toolsx86\*.*” mount\ /s

Is this all one line? Or three seperate lines? Sorry to be so stupid, I can assemble a PC, OC it but don't read / write software.
I even copied and pasted but still didn't work for me.

I will check this out later, since I am considering reformatting right now to set up a RAID array.

If you want to make the perfect install disk, you should run VLite on your disk, and tweak it how you want, and then install that. Then install all your updates, drivers, etc. And then run all this stuff on that installation to make another disk. Then you will have a shaved down Vista with all your stuff included.

hi, lemonyx,

I was just trying out this article.
Therefore, based on my experiences, they are 3 separate lines.
And there is a typo in the 3rd command line. (At least for me...)

xcopy “c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Toolsx86\*.*” mount\ /s
↓ ↓ ↓(should be like the below.)
xcopy “c:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86\*.*” mount\ /s
(A "\" is missing between "Tools" and "x86")

Hope this helps.

Big O,

Thank you for your great article, but I am facing some problems.

Firstly, I don't have the Folder "sysprep" and the File "sysprep.exe" in my windows.
Therefore I can't run the command below.
Without running this command, will that be an issue in the future?
C:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown

Secondly, I couldn't run the command below as well.
imagex /compress fast /flags "Vista Version" /verify /capture c: e:\myImages\firstImage.wim “Name” "description"
I tried changing the E: to my D: (I can read this drive under WinPE), but I have no luck at all.
I got the error message below.
Error opening file [d:\myImages\FirstImage.wim]
The system cannot find the path specified

I am wondering when Big O, you created a file named FirstImage.wim and you wrote it out in your article?

Is this FirstImage.wim same as the winpe.wim (C:\winpe_x86\winpe.wim)?

Waiting for helps...

Ok I'm really surprised by the fact that noone else has brought this up, but can't you do the exact same thing with alot less steps using Acronis or Norton Ghost???

Making wims with WinPE is quite different. A WIM is a master image, that can be appended to include multiple different installs, while only installing each needed file once (Just to name one thing that's better.)
