Under services disable windows search if you want to turn off indexing. It improves harddrive access and stops vista from running the drive into the ground. Last goto device manager>disk drives>properties>policies and check enable advanced performance. It makes the drives way faster. I use SATA with NCQ enabled and you can get major performance increases with this little option.
