Default Mouse and keyboard dont work!
I have a '99 HP with windows XP on it, and the mouse and keyboard wont work. The computer was used to run my parents small buisness and is now mine. Im very new at upgrading and building/rebuilding computers (I havent done anything). Im just trying to get it to work right now so i can upgrade it or use components to build a new computer.

What kind of connections do they have? USB or PS2? In extreme cases... serial port for the mouse....

If it's USB, you probably need to update your NorthBridge (chipset), but I doubt that since it's pre-built.... If PS2.... are you sure you plugged them in right?

Its PS2, and ive tried bolth ports. The mouse and keyboard havent been working for a while (thats why my parents got rid of it) so idk whats wrong with it. Im going to try a Linus LiveCD and see if they work then.

Try another keyboard/mouse. i had a problem with this a while ago. It was an internal miswiring in the mouse/keyboard.

could be something wrong w/ you mobo, but thats a far out chance, check your internal wiring like TylerBello said

Yep. You could go to ROSS for like a mouse..... 'bout keyboard... not sure, but you could check out BigLots, if there's one around your place.
