Default How to make recovery image on a separate partition?

I'm building a computer for my gf's family who are not very computer savy and I want to make an image of the HD and place it in a separate partition so that if the computer gets messed up, I can simply reimage the drive instead of going nuts trying to fix it. How can I do this? I have Norton Ghost but I can't seem to get it to work.

I'm hoping to have it so that the image would reside on a separate partition of the HD and that it would not be able to be accessed so it can't be corrupted. I've seen this done on some Dell laptops and all of the computers at my work place has the same thing done.

Any thoughts?

I would try Acronis Image? I could never get Norton Ghost to work, atleast not the new one.

For Acronis, it is really easy and simple.
Just select the drive you want to backup, then select the path you want to store it, and then burn a recovery CD.

Now for Norton Ghost, I have no idea? What version are you using?

To make the drive in accessible, I would set it up this way:

Make it FAT, FAT32 or NTFS, then right click the drive and go to Permissions or Security, then change it so that only the System User has access to it. And not everyone, or you could hide the drive.

Using Tweak UI, go to My Computer, and then Drives, tyhen unselect the ones you want.

Guides on how to backup using Norton Ghost:

Lightbulb reimage instead of reimage

Cheetos -

My name is Jason and I work for Reimage,

you can do the backup, but, when you restore the PC all of the information will be lost and they will demand that you reinstall everything again ... password and stuff.

I know your frustration as I had to repair my sister’s, mother’s, neighbors and practically every one that has my phone PC - this is why I'm posting here.

The best thing with Reimage is that it is just repairing, doing a repair a human would do for hours.

If you want to try reimage on that PC, go to the www.reimage.com and click for trial, in the description write “cheetos” and I’ll approve you as a trial .

Jason

You can build a recovery partition with the Windows OEM Preinstallation Kit. (Not to mention automate installing Windows and make them type in the product key and all that jazz, just like a Dell or HP or whatever.)

Acronis true Image has a feature called Acronis secure zone, which creates a bootable partition on a hdd and allows you to do incremental backups and then if you need to reload you can hit F11 on the boot. You then can restore the image back. The nice thing Acronis True Image home only cost around $40.
