Default slow internet connection - please help

hey everyone,

I am wondering if someone can help me figure out why I am downloading things so slowly...I do have wireless internet which is probably the biggest culprate but i am connected at 11 mbps most of the time. Right now i am downloading a 1.9gb file and it it is going at 4kb a second. At this rate it will take 5 days to finish.... Is there something easy I can do to fix this problem? Just browsing the internet is great, extremely fast, but downloading it a pain! I have two houses and my other computer (eMachine) at my other house it connected right to the cable modem and getting 100 mbps so is it just because of the wireless? If so i guess i will have to wire it in...Any suggestions?

Have you checked out the signal boosting FAQ? Also, you might want to check how far you are from your signal, as well as making sure your signal doesnt have connection problem's it's self. Are you on cable?

are you running cable? You might want to check your crimping if so.

go to kernel.org and just download ANY kernel, then delete it. they have CRAZY fast servers, so the problem cannot be on their end. if you still get 4kb/s...then i'll think harder.

EDIT: that's to make sure you're not just dl'ing from a slow server.

i would restart router & modem...it usually fixes that stuff for me

I think its a problem with his connection, there must be something wrong with the connection between his router and modem or whatever he uses that is giving him bad speeds, maybe its falling in and out of place. Or something...

ok where your cable is coming in you need to crimp the wire so that the connection is stable and the cable isnt moving around, make a quick jiggle of your cable and tell me if it has any play or not.
