Default Upgrading for XP to Vista Problem. please help~

Hey guys...
So I finally built my new computer yesterday and because I was in somewhat of a rush, I couldn't find my vista cd, but had my windows xp sp2 disk.
Now that I did find my vista cd, I want to reinstall it, but have a few problems. First, keep in mind that my xp isn't activated as I don't have the key for it.
Now, here's what I am doing.
When I start up my computer, I go to BiOS, change the boot order (It's at HD, CD, then Floppy by default, but when I want to use the vista disk, I make it CD, HD, then Floppy), and then try to read the cd. at this point my keyboard stops working so I can't exactly make it read the cd (It tells me to click any key to read cd, otherwise it'll boot up windows. Even after booting windows the keyboard doesn't work...). From what I've seen, my keyboard works again when the boot order is HD, CD, then Floppy, and the Vista disk is out :\.

Soo. Can anyone help me get the keyboard to work so I can install Vista? :\.
Thanks for your help, and taking your time to read that lol .

EDIT. Title had a typo... for should be from. Sorry about that :\.

This might sound stupid but did you enable USB keyboard detection/support in the bios or are you using a PS2 Keyboard ?

How do I check if I have PS2 keyboard because I'm not sure how to check (I'm really bad at this lol).
I'll check about the USB keyboard detection in BiOS.

EDIT: Yeah it's a USB. I enabled the support. Let me try again, and thanks xD.

A USB keyboard uses well a USB Slot.

I had this problem too lol. One solution actually, is to just wait... the installer launches itself eventually. Either that or PS2 keyboard or enable USB legacy support.
