Is it corrupted?
Hey there, my cousins computer has been restarting without warning. I checked his entire hardware and the sound card (audigy 2 ZS) seemed to be causing the problem. Once removed and drivers uninstalled, the computer stopped restarting. But when i install any new programs it comes up with errors saying it couldnt install and in his hard drive directory program files and windows folders are named with boxes and letters like the pic i attached. Does this mean his hard drive is corrupted?

id say so...thats really odd, ive never seen anything like that before...it seems like language files are missing or something, but all in all it really does seem like his hard drive might be scratched or something and it could have lost some data, maybe try a reformat and reinstall everything, that should solve the problem.

already formatted but i havent formatted since i removed the sound card, you think it wont corrupt this time?...without the sound card?
oh and scandsk came up with a few corrupted files

hmm yes corrupted isn't a word...maybe i shouldn't choose advanced english
...oh i know where i got it from, my dad says it all the time when a computer has errors.

yeah, reformat again, and remember ALWAYS install the drivers first.
__________________this is how i go about it. 1. mobo drivers 2. sound drivers 3. video drivers 4. camera drivers (if you have one) and when it asks you to restart say NO until you get ALL the drivers installed.

yes i know i always do that. If i return his 'still covered by warranty' audigy 2 ZS should i just get another one or get another brand of sound card?

Ummm, yea stupid guess would be that a font is either completely screwed up or flat out missing, but that....is something totally different.
