My wife just enrolled in a graphic design program and they sent her her software, of which includes:
1) Full version of windows XP Professional 2) Full version of Windows XP Professional -x64 Here's the thing. I don't think her computer is compatible with the -x64 version and that is the version her school recommends using. Here are her system specs: Asus P4P800-VM mobo Intel P4 Socket 478 Prescott core 2.4 Ghz 2GB of 3 different types of DDR-400 XFX 6200 AGP GPU (that was the replacement for an 8400GS of mine that died) So will this thing be able to even install and run/use the 64 bit version of xp? I am aware of driver issues with i. I am just trying to get her up to par so she can use what she needs to use.

You will be unable to use x64 with the 478 platform. You need LGA 775, so it looks like an upgrade is needed. I regularly do graphic designing, and while x64 runs smoother overall, x86 (32 bit/regular) is sufficient.

According to your specs that you provided it will not run X64 XP. The 32 bit version is what you will have to use, unless you upgrade to newer hardware.

AFAIK, there are no socket 478 x64 chips that exist.

I think only Prescott 5xx and Prescott 6xxx/2M (Extreme) support 64. It seems like that you need to upgrade because most likly, that software isn't happy with this rig.

You could just give her yours and put XP x64 on it.
