Ok so i figured it was time to update a while back so i started buying some parts to build a new box. Found a deal on a used cpu, mb and ram then purchased a new hd and video card. At first everything was going well with only a random hang up/freeze when accessing the 2nd partition(storage) of my drive. Well after a while of this it became more often and more often until i couldn't take it and decided to reformat the os partition. Since then it seems everything has went down hill.
At first i thought it might have been a virus or ram issue but none of the programs i've scanned with have found anything and neither does running any single or combo of the ram i have. I did this before and after a reformat. When i reformat i don't do the quick format and the order i go is as follows. 1. delete partition-format-reinstall os 2. add drivers(could be issues here) and restart. 3. download updates and restart 4. install av software and restart 5. move some files from storage to os partition and restart 6. install firefox, flash and stuff like that and restart 7. defrag I've never had a problem doing things this way until now. It seems i can't even get the os/drivers installed and restart in without a freeze as it's shutting down. I'm not sure if it's hardware related or drivers or something else since this is the first time i've had to dl drivers since i don't have the install disc from the board manufacturer. From the manufacturer it seems some of the drivers are repeats(chip/indavidual) and it doesn't seem to matter which ones i use i get the same result. Here is a link if you can give some input... LINK. Another point to make is this is the first sata drive i've had and have been using it as ide even though i later added the raid drivers before i reformatted to see if it would make a difference. Shouldn't it work right as a ide since it's the only drive or would i need to change the jumper? Sorry for rambling i'm just at my wits end and have never had this much trouble with a pc. The last one i put together was still going good after 2-3 years. If you can help get this lined out please do before i have to take it to the range and properly dispose of it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess some other info that may help is ... This is my sig rig. Storage partition only has 17% of 110g free. For some reason it shows a 8mb section of the drive that i can't include in the partition now. When it freezes i notice that system in task manager is always using up the cpu

Is this the same chkdsk that has been deleting files every few times i restart?
I'll give it a shot but... will this do anything to my storage partition? I have alot of pics and other data on there and these are the only copies so i can't lose it. edit: those commands didn't work but CHKDSK did and it suggested CHKDSK /P. Then i figured out you may not have ment both at the same time. So did the chkdsk /r and it's doing it's thing. Hopefully the /f wasn't a necessary step. Sorry i'm a walking code 18 waiting to happen ![]()

Update: Just for giggles i uninstalled my av(trend micro internet security 2008 trial) and everything seemed to work fine(like it should). Then i reinstalled it after playing around and got the same problems again but if i shut it down everything goes back to working. This disappoints me because i've loved every version of their av i've used.
Anyone else had problems with pccillin? Any other security software that's similar to trends and just as good or better? I've tried the spybot, avast, zone alarm, adaware, avg and wasn't real impressed with any of them nor did i like having to have multiple programs to accomplish what trends software does.

Going Broke Overclocking

Have you checked the voltages on your PS? HDDs can act odd with low voltage.

when installing drivers, if it asks for restart. Restart for whichever one it asks. As for updates do the necessary ones like sp1,2 and 3. Don't do any other ones

I did unhook a the 120mm case fan though just incase wheni was trying to trouble shoot before i reformated. Quote:
If i'm remembering right the only updates i installed were sp3 first then restarted and installed a couple more like the net 1.0-2.0 stuff. I didn't even update to IE 7. So far it's still working good when pccillin is down. I'm going to add some other software i haven't loaded yet and see how it does like this. If all else fails hopefully i can find a new av/anti spy/softwall or get pccilin 2007 to load since i know i have that somewhere around here and it worked fine on every other pc i've had it on.
