Default XP service pack 3

Hi, I just wanted your opinions on if I should get XP SP3. I do a LOT of gaming and have heard that it has adverse effects on some games. Is this true? I really do not want to turn my nice copy of XP into Vista

I won't turn your PC into Vista, don't worry. All that in SP3 is a bunch of updates that you really should have.

SP3 actually gave me some performance gains in games, back when I had me 7600GT .

It's fine, get it...your 8800GT can push it without a problem.

Vista is good too...

I actually got an FPS boost when I switched over to Vista. Granted I needed to learn some basics, but I found Vista better than XP. So unless you have tried Vista yourself, you are entitled the right to bash Vista.

I'd want a copy of XP to turn into Vista...

Since in my experience Vista SP1 is actually faster than XP SP3...

Get SP3, it doesn't cause performance loss that I could tell and its always better to stay up-to-date.

No issues; no slowdowns. I do not notice any difference using it though, but I think it is helpful to have it as they are updates. But for some reason, if you reformat with SP2, you cannot install WLMAIL. Well, I could not until I installed SP3. Weird though.

I have experienced nothing different at all after installing SP3. No performance increase; no performance decrease. I'm satisfied lol

Ditto, I installed it and... nothing. I know there is lots of background stuff going on, but it changed nothing as far as I can tell for my use.
SP 3 is nothing like SP 2 was. There were many improvements with SP2 that you could actually tell from a performance standpoint.
I like SP3 because 95% of the updates are there when I do a fresh install, so it is much quicker to get a system running.
