Installing XP Pro over Home?

New rig again :s
|
Hey, I have XP home with SP2 and i was wondering if i would loose any files installing XP Pro over it? I allways wanted to make the switch but I didnt want to loose my programs. Is there a update file i can buy or do i just install from the XP Pro CD? Thanks

You would not lose any files but the registry will be rewritten there for you will still have to install all your software because all the registry information will be gone.

The only other way I can think of not having to reinstall everything is to make a backup of your registry. Save it some where on the drive. Install Windows XP pro then back up the new registry and save it some where.
then click on the first registry back up file from the home version and let it merge with the current registry. It might work but I am not 100 percent sure. If not you have your backed up registry from your pro Install that you can just merge back to the registry.
