vista 64 is the way to go. It is a very stable OS, dx10, no compatability issues, and superfetch = win. not to mention vista 64 will see all your ram! I have been using vista for about 6 months now and i wouldn't go back to XP if i had the option.

Your sig rig shouldn't have any issues running vista btw.

DX10 and last of all. Hard to find drivers that are incorporated seamlessly.

With my older rig i had vista32 bit, I didn't have any issues with drivers. My sig rig runs vista 64 and i have yet to run into any driver issues.

while mentioning drivers, vista is nice because it will recover a driver if it does crash/hang without having to reboot.

i would say go with vista, get yourself acustomed to it becuase thats what everything is going to be using soon.
i personally still stuck on XP, i dual booted between xp and vista and just never found my self booting into the vista partition, i reformatted everything and never got around to putting vista back on

Vista 64bit is better.

The run command, press the windows key + r or open the start menu and type half of what you are looking for, ex. comp. First thing that pops up at the top of the list computer management, WOW that was easy....

It really comes down to the people bashing vista are either uninformed or do not have the hardware capable of running vista. In that case keep xp, I just don't get why people fight and try to force people to switch to vista.
