Alright. I got my friend's copy of Vista Ultimate OEM, and it seems my PC is a bit slower. I've disabled UAC, DEP, and Windows Defender. Are there any kind of tweaks/programs out there that will help me take advantage of my Q6600 Quad?

I don't know about something that could "help vista to take advantage of your q6600", but make sure you have ALL updates installed (SP1 most important) and use Ccleaner to get rid of un-used crap, might speed something up a little bit.

Here is a download link:

Well, I've been running Vista for a week now and I must say it's seems great. I'm still getting used to getting around the interface since I've only used it in my DigiPhoto class back in high school for a year.

I think 32-bit Ultimate supports 4GB, so I think that's going to be my first upgrade. I'm using 50-55% at idle when my IM programs are on.

Well, that RAM usage is Vista utilizing your RAM when its not being used. And I wouldn't upgrade to 4 gigs of RAM because you will not notice an improvement. You are already using 3 gigs of your RAM, and most of the time you only get 3.25-3.5 gigs useable RAM on a 32bit OS.

So adding another 2 gigs worth of RAM would just be pointless. You are fine right now.

I see. So really you only want to upgrade to 4 GB when you go for a 64-bit OS?

If you have a copy Vista, by all means go for it. It's been an excellent OS for me for over a year, love it. Your system should have absolutely no performance issues with it. If you are debating on upgrading (and don't own a copy), then it would depend if you want to spend the extra money on it. For me, it was totally worth it.

I would definitely use the 64-bit version. You don't need 4GB of RAM for Vista... but since DDR2 is cheap, you may want to pick up an extra 2GB or a even 4GB kit to replace your current kit.
