I was wondering, In Vista, should I close the Windows Sidebar ? Will it speed up gaming by abit ?
__________________Sorry if this is a dumb question because I'm new to Vista. I had to do it because I heard about the XP Blackout rumour. Anyway, can people tell me more about Vista why does it use 800MB of my RAM ? Thanks. EDIT : And is Vista like XP in gaming ? I heard from people that its slower .. By the way, I've just installed SP1 from the Microsoft site. UT3 Was abit Choppy but high FPS when I wasn't using SP1 .. But I deleted it ..

I dont think that the ~10MB Sidebar should affect gaming at all.

If sidebar effects performance to the point where you can see if a difference in your gaming if its open vs closed then yes you should close it. However if it does cause a decrease in performance you should look into getting more ram. Can't really say cause we can see your system specs. Get em filled in under the User Control Panel.

Well my 3700 @ 3.0Ghz chokes with Vista in new games but does quite well in XP. I am getting a Q6600 very soon and really see if Vista need a Dual or Quad or its just Vista that games work slower.

Don't the sidebar apps sometimes access the internet? I would imagine that that would generate CPU usage as well as network traffic (which can cause lag spikes in multiplayer games).
I close anything like that which might have some impact on my system's performance when I want it to focus only on games.

The main reason I close it is because I have gadgets on the desktop (slideshow and weather) and they get pushed around when the resolution changes. That bugs me so I close it. Other than that, it is a bit pointless since I use mine for time, cpu, etc. that I can't see while gaming. So for me, I close it.
