Hey everyone, I am trying to reinstall XP on an old computer. I am having a weird problem that I have never had before. After I boot up with the disk... I hit enter to set up xp... and then go to the page that usually shows my hard drives and xp partitions. All I see is four Unknown Disk errors when I only have one hard drive. It is not recognizing my current xp install at all which is weird because i can boot up into it fine. If I just hit enter I get a BSOD. Help is appreciated.

thats pretty strange, make sure you do CMOS reset, keep tyhe machine at stock settings, go with 1 stick of ram and alternate incase is does so again - make sure there is no overheating going on and maybe keep a room fan to the side of the case.
depending on how old this old computer is, it is possible heat may couse it to bsod somehow at that point.. it is possible that the bios itself has become corrupt over time wich could explain not properly reading your drives.

I really doubt that the computer is overheating. The BSOD error is:

Edit :Also page faults in non paged area 0x0000050. Most times is from a unstable ram or bad memory. Had both of those symptoms happen to me on my systems I had and on friends Pc's also.

At your inital compaq post screen at the bottom it should say what keys to press to enter bios. Prolly del or f2
Edit : You might have a separate raid bios screen come up telling you what key to press also

I do not have any problems getting into the bios... I don't understand how deleting the raid will solve my problem. i need to format the raid. I guess I just need to load the drivers into my xp install.
