Hey guys.....
Just reinstalled windows onto my laptop [x64 version this time] and as i use the laptop at school it gets put into standby between each lesson. When running on the x86 Vista it standbys in ~10-15 seconds i would say - depending on what i had open/running Now in x64 - the time to go into standby is easily twice to 3 times longer. Why is this and can i shorten it? I can put it into standby and do - it's just that it takes ages in x64 Vista - in x86 it is usually <20 seconds.... If it makes a difference - x32=Business, x64=Ultimate Laptop is a HP 6715b - upgraded to the 2.2ghz AMD and 2gb ram and 250gb HDD Thanks in advanced scottath

Control Panel>Power Options Click "Choose when computer sleeps" in the left pane and adjust to your liking (from 1min to 5hrs)

It is the time taken to standby - i manually standby the system via the power button - i don't have the auto standby enabled.
The question relates to the amount of time taken from when the button is pushed untill the system is "off"

I had a similar issue and it was because for some reason there was roughly 8gb file in the hibernation/standby temp file. I removed it and it went back to normal.
I have no idea what it was doing, but there was muchos disk activity.

Did you install SP1? I ask because it includes a hotfix that is supposed to improve performance when entering and resuming from sleep.

When you set the PC to hibernate (instead of sleep) system's state (at the time of hibernation) is saved to hiberfil.sys on the HDD. Whereas when using sleep the current state is saved to RAM. Hibernate is safer in that if power is lost everything is saved on the HDD instead of RAM

When i was hibernating, All the files resided in folders like this:
C:\System Volume Information\{a7806464-701b-11dd-86e2....(massive string)} You might want to google about deleting hiberfil.sys and definitely do not delete the pagefile ![]() Reference: http://www.overclock.net/operating-s...ml#post4430124
