I was going to suggest doing that as well but I'm not sure how legal it is. I thought I read somewhere that it's against MS' Terms of Use to use the upgrade disc to perform a full install. It's kind of along the same lines as using an OEM disc on a new mobo after it's already been tied to a previous one. Yes it can be done but you're not supposed to do it. Just my .

From my understanding, this is a way to get around not having a previous version of Windows installed. In my case, I purchased from HP when they offered an upgrade disc for Vista. I already have xp installed and the upgrade copy is specifically for this machine. I would assume this is a time that its ok to use the exploit as I'm just trying to achieve a clean (not full) install.

I think it's horse sh** that they charge a difference or limit between an "upgrade" disk and a "full" version.
