Default question about Manufacturer OEMs or regular OEM OSes

has anyone bought a laptop, say with vista home premium on it, all cluttered with HP or toshiba oftware or something similiar to that and then reinstalled with a clean version of the os, from an OEM cd or a retail cd? is there a drastic difference? how many processes should be open on a clean install?

i cant reliably run cod4 on my laptop, (it runs great until i run into somebody....lol).

Just lookin for some opinions!

I prefer to have a clean installation so I know exactly what is on my computer. When I bought my old Fujitsu laptop, it came with a restore disk that would restore the hard drive to its original state and no XP installation CD. I would restore the drive, then go and uninstall all the thing I didn't want. After I had removed everything unnecessary, I would reinstall the drivers and it was a clean situation. If I had had an OEM version of the OS, that would have been preferred.

I don't think the OEM key will work with a Retail Disk (It did not with XP).
If you can get ahold of a MS OEM disk, it should work with no issue, and it is much nicer not having all the clutter. You can delete most all the bloat ware, but it may take a bit to figure out what all it is.

well. luckily im using vista, vista dvds install based on the style of CD key punched in, I was able to use my HP key using a vista ultimate 32 bit disc, and it installed home premium, i was also able to call and activate windows over the phone with the automated message and all the updates installed etc.. its SO much more responsive, and im running 38 processes as opposed to the 60+ i was running with the HP install...
